We make robotics accessible, one component at a time

GearBay exists to promote technical education and technical culture through practical, hands-on robotics. We curate reliable components—boards, sensors, power systems, and kits—so makers, students, and educators can focus on building, learning, and experimenting instead of hunting for parts.

Our mission

GearBay is rooted in a Croatian technical culture foundation established in 1998 to promote engineering education and hands-on learning. That same spirit drives our catalog today: we believe the best way to learn electronics, programming, and automation is by building real projects.

Robotics sits at the intersection of hardware, software, and problem-solving. It's accessible—starting with a Raspberry Pi and a few sensors—but it scales to complex autonomous systems. We want that journey to be open to anyone, whether you're a high school student wiring your first motor driver or an educator outfitting a classroom.

Our role is straightforward: we source reliable components at fair prices and pair them with practical guidance. Every product page links to relevant how-to articles, and our Product Finder helps you match parts to your project requirements. We're not inventing new platforms or pushing proprietary ecosystems—we're making the existing ones easier to work with.

What we value

  • Education over sales volume

We write guides that help you choose the right battery, compare sensor options, or understand when to use Raspberry Pi versus Arduino. The goal is informed decisions, not impulse purchases.

  • Technical honesty

We test what we sell and call out tradeoffs. If a cheaper component has limitations, we say so. If a popular module has a learning curve, we document it. Trust comes from accuracy, not marketing.

  • Hands-on learning

Robotics is learned by doing. Our kits include everything you need to start building immediately, and our component selection reflects real-world project requirements—from prototyping breadboards to motor drivers rated for actual loads.

  • Global maker culture

Technical education isn't bound by geography. We serve the US and German markets from our Croatian foundation, and our country-by-country analysis shows how robotics education is evolving worldwide.

How we source and support

  • Curated selection

We don't list every SKU on the market. We choose components that work well together, have clear documentation, and match the projects our guides describe.

  • Fair pricing

Mid-market pricing anchored to Amazon and specialty retailers. You won't find the absolute cheapest options here, but you also won't overpay for generic parts marketed as premium.

  • Technical context

Every category links to relevant articles. Need a battery pack? Read our battery selection guide first. Looking at sensor options? We compare ultrasonic, infrared, and optical modules by use case.

  • Responsive support

Questions about compatibility, wiring, or bulk orders? Contact us directly. We handle technical questions, order issues, and educational institution inquiries.

Who we serve

Starting your first project

If you've never built a robot, our Raspberry Pi Robot Starter Kit includes everything: the board, motor driver, sensors, chassis, and power system. Pair it with our getting started guide and you'll have an autonomous obstacle-avoiding robot running in an afternoon.

New to component selection? Use the Product Finder to answer a few questions about your project, and we'll recommend a matched set of parts.
